Mentoring in Grant Writing & Fundraising

Resource Associates offers an innovative grant writer mentoring program that could be extremely beneficial to your organization. The way it works is very simple. Most agencies will select a member of their staff (often a Development Director, Program Director, or Administrative Assistant) to participate. After taking a thorough inventory of this participant’s knowledge and experience level of ‘working with grants,’ our team of experts will develop a customized training program tailored towards the specific knowledge gaps and needs of the participant. Over the course of two full days, the participant will then receive one-on-one training and hands-on mentoring from an expert grant writing mentor from our firm. Based on the needs of the participant, the training may cover a variety of topics, such as:

• Intermediate or advanced level grant writing techniques to obtain federal and state grants
• How to identify and apply for foundation funding
• Strategies for determining one’s probability of award and fit for a grant competition
• How to develop a budget narrative
• Quality control tools and strategies for managing grants and grant budgets
• Grant research and evaluation

We also have fundraising and capital campaign specialists who are able to customize sessions towards various areas of organization development. 

For a six month period after the training is completed, our mentors will be available for 5 additional hours (online and/or via phone) to provide additional support and coaching to the participant, as needed. This includes help with identifying grants, writing grants, reviewing grant proposals, or assisting with the development of fundraising prospect studies, etc.
