Youthbuild Grant

§Reduced Grant Writing Fee: $2,800 to write the proposal (a $500 discount!)

§Description: 90-100 grants will be awarded under this grant program that focuses on providing job training and employment opportunities for disadvantaged youth (ages 16-20) to help them acquire the education and employment skills necessary to achieve economic self sufficiency

§Anticipated Award Amount:  Up to $1,100,000 for a 3-year period

§Cost Match Requirement: 25% cash or in kind

§Funder: Department of Labor

§Eligibility:  Open to public or private agencies or organizations such as community based organizations, community action agencies, state or local housing development agencies, Native American tribes or organizations, community development corporations, state or local youth service conservation corps or any other relevant public or private entity that provides education or employment training and can meet the required elements of the grant. 

§What can be purchased:  Funds can be used to help disadvantaged youth obtain post secondary education as well as employment and training skills for occupations in demand.

§Deadline: January 15, 2009

Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program

§Reduced Grant Writing Fee: $2,800 to write the proposal (a $500 discount!)

§Description: This grant provides funding to develop faculty and library leaders, to recruit and educate the next generation of librarians, to conduct research, to attract high school and college students to consider careers in libraries, to build institutional capacity in graduate schools of library and information science, and to assist in the professional development of librarians and library staff.

§Anticipated Award Amount:  From $50,000 to $1,000,000 per year for up to 3 years

§Cost Match Requirement: 50% of total project costs

§Funder: Institute of Museum and Library Services

§Eligibility: This grant is open to all types of libraries (except federal and for profit libraries). Eligible libraries include: public, school, academic, special, and private (not-for-profit) libraries, archives, library agencies, library consortia, and library associations, research libraries that give the public access to services, institutions of higher education, including public and not-for-profit universities and colleges and graduate schools of library and information science that apply as part of an institution of higher education.

§What can be purchased:  Funds may be used for doctoral programs, master’s programs, research, pre-professional programs, programs to build institutional capacity, and continuing education. 

§Deadline: December 15, 2008

     A Showcase for NEW GRANT PROGRAMS

 

  

Young Parents Demonstration Grant Program

    In What's the Deal, we are showcasing the new federal Department of Labor’s Young Parents Demonstration Program. This grant is out for competition for the first time ever to provide funding that supports new or existing educational and occupational skills training leading to family economic self sufficiency for young mothers and fathers, ages 16 to 24. This program will award up to $1,000,000 for up to 3 years. The wonderful thing about this grant is that funding can be used to provide services to a variety of high risk young people including victims of child abuse, children of incarcerated parents, court-involved youth, homeless or runaway youth, Indian and Native American youth, migrant youth, youth in or aging out of foster care, and youth with disabilities and THAT'S THE DEAL. 

§Reduced Grant Writing Fee: $2,800 to write the proposal (a $500 discount!)

§Description: This grant offers funding support for educational institutions, 501C3 nonprofits and for profit organizations (in partnership with their local Workforce Investment Board) to provide essential services to young parents in need).

§Anticipated Award Amount:  Up to $1,000,000 for up to 3 years.

§Cost Match Requirement: None

§Eligibility:  Open to accredited educational institutions, 501C3 nonprofit providers of workforce system services, One-Stop Career Centers, employers or industry associations or private, for-profit organizations.  All applicants must be in a partnership with a Workforce Investment Board and have a letter of commitment from their participating WIB to qualify.       

§Funder: Department of Labor

§Deadline: November 17, 2008
